Heart Gold & Soul Silver Voltorb Flip

This is a tutorial for the Voltorb Flip Game. The object of the game is to find all the cards with 2’s and 3’s in each round before moving up to the next level. The only problem is voltorbs are hidden under the cards as well! Flip a voltorb, and its game over. You'll lose all the coins collected in that round.

Ok so I’ll try to make this tutorial as simple as I can. Here is the game board:

Ok first let’s focus on the boxes at the bottom right.

The top number is the total sum of the numbers in that row/column, while the numbers to the right of the voltorb is how many voltorbs are in the row/column.
The blue box has a sum of 3, and 2 voltorbs.
The purple box has a sum of 6, and 1 voltorb.
There are a total of 5 “cards” on each row/column. The goal is to get all the 2’s and 3’s flipped without getting a voltorb (don’t worry about going after 1’s). If any of the boxes add up to 5 (sum of both the top number and bottom number) then you can leave that row/column alone. What I like to do is use the memo at the top right of the screen and mark a 1 or a "dot" in each one of those rows that have a total of 5 in them like so:

It’s much easier for me atleast to do it that way because that eliminates some of the rows/columns and you can focus on the important ones more. There are some instances that you have a 0 in one of your boxes, these are very helpful because you can elimate boxes right off the bat. Once you see that you have a 0 right next to the voltorb picture, you can flip that row/column without worrying about there being a voltorb under the card like so:

Now as you can see there are only 3 cards left that don’t have a number 1 in the box, those 3 cards are the only ones that we should focus on now (they are highlighted in green). Ok so now you want to look at the numbers in the boxes. Now starting from the top one (the 4/2 one) we can see that there are 2 voltorbs in that row and the row equals to four. So with the 2 voltorbs in there, there are only 3 cards left that have to have a number in them like so.

Now if we add the numbers that are already flipped, we get 3. The squares with the red lines through them are assumed to be the 2 voltorbs in the row, so that means the last card must be a 1 for the total sum to be 4. This means, we can ignore this row completely since there are only voltorbs and 1s left in it! YAY!

As you can see, there are only 2 cards left that doesn’t have a 1 on it (highlighted in green)

As you can see here, both of the rows have 6-1 and both of them have a total of 3. The sum of the row must add up to 6, and 1 voltorb must be present in that row, which means that there has to be a 2 in the row in the spaces that hasn't been marked off yet! Like so:

After that, you’ll receive a message saying that you completed the board and the rest of the cards will show you the hidden locations of the voltorbs and 1s that you didn't flip. This ends round one of Voltorb Flip! The game gets harder from here, and doesn't give you as many rows/columns with 0 voltorbs. There are more strategies to work with for higher levels, but for now just practice around level 1 and 2. You may develop some of your own strategies as you go along.

Remember, practice is the only way to get this. If you'd like to practice with an online version of Voltorb flip, check out this site!

Quick Tips:
The memo is very useful!
Mark off the rows with numbers adding up to 5! (like 2/3 and 1/4)
Don't bother flipping a row/column if there are only 1's and voltorbs in it!
Double check your bottom row and right column to make sure you aren't forgetting an easy row to eliminate.
The top number is the sum of the row/column, and the bottom number tells you how many voltorbs are in each row/colum.
If you have played Sudoku, this will be much easier. If you haven't don't be afraid! Just go step by step.
