Contest Basics:
There are five different Super Contest divisions. Each division has four ranks. Any pokemon can enter the Normal Rank, but for higher ranks a Pokemon must first win the previous rank to enter.

When you win a Contest, you will receive a ribbon and an accessory too according to what division and rank you enter.

Each Contest consists of three rounds:

Round 1. - Visual Competition

Round 2. - Dance Competition

Round 3. - Acting Competition

Poffins

Pick poffin flavours to suit the Contest category.

Category Major Effects Minor Effects Effective Poffin
Beauty Contest Beauty Cuteness/Cool/Sheen Dry
Cool Contest Cool Beauty/Tough/Sheen Spicy
Smart Contest Smart Cuteness/Tough/Sheen Bitter
Tough Contest Tough Smart/Cool/Sheen Sour
Cute Contest Cute Smart/Beauty/Sheen Sweet

You can either – make your own Poffins at Hearthome City or you can buy them from the Department Store basement in Veilstone City.

Go to a house south of the Contest Hall in Hearthome City and speak to the lady next to the table. You can choose whether to make a Poffin by yourself or in a group. Next you choose your berry. Then follow the instructions on your screen and try not to make it overflow or burn.

First Round – Visual:

The top screen tells you how much time you have, how many accessories can be used and the theme.

How many accessories you can use:
5 for Normal Rank
10 for Great Rank
15 for Ultra Rank
20 for Master Rank.

How to get Accessories:

Take a stroll in Amity Square – here your Pokemon might find an item and if you talk to them they will give it to you.

Keep Amity Square Clean – there is a hard-to-get-to man in Amity Square who gives you either 5 berries or different Accessories.

Get a Pokemon Massage – just south of Veilstone City Gym there is a house where a lovely lady will give your Pokemon a massage and will find an Accessory and give it to you.

Trade Berries for Accessories – in the Floaroma City Flower Shop talk to the lady near the counter and there you can trade berries for Accessories (some are extremely hard to get).

Second Round – Dance:

Keep to the beat and you will earn higher scores.

Just remember the higher the rank the less mistakes the Backup Dancers will make less mistakes

You can use the D-pad (the arrow buttons) instead of the touch screen if you prefer.

Use all your castanets.

Place a couple in the beginning and wiat to the end to add in the other castanets, often when there is a long interval the Pokemon's attention may waver, causing them to make mistakes.

Click the castanets on the dark lines, the other Pokemon are likely to lose their place then.

Start and end with a blue castanet, because you move forward your cover the pink score making it hard for the other Pokemon to see and keep up.

Third Round – Acting:

Firstly go over the moves your Pokemon will use, get a good moveset otherwise and plan for a big finale.

Choose your judge, either Jordan, Dexter or Keira.

Conditions Heart Awarded
Sharing a judge with no other Pokemon +3 hearts awarded
Sharing a judge with 1 other Pokemon +2 hearts each
Sharing a judge with 2 other Pokemon +1 heart each
Sharing a judge with all 3 Pokemon No hearts awarded

But if you have a 1 hit K.O. Move like Sheer Cold or Fissure or Guillotine if all Pokemon choose the same judge you get +15 hearts.

Raise the judges voltage, if you get full voltage then you will score many hearts depending on your judge.

Judge Hearts Awarded
Dexter +8 hearts
Jordan/Keira +5 hearts

Moves:

Normal moves earn you 3 hearts.

Moves that win hearts based on the voltage.

Moves that win hearts based on the order of the Pokemon. eg. +2 hearts if Pokemon acts first

Moves that win hearts based on Special Conditions. eg. If all pokemon choose the same judge you will get this many hearts.

And finally select the best Pokemon for each division, find out the moves they learn and check the contest stats.
